Anyone who books a tour to Angkor Wat with an agent in Khaosan Rd _will_ be scammed, as you were. The agent, as well as those involved _all_ make money...for the transport to the border and then to Siem Reap, as well as at the lodgings were they take you. Be careful and be informed..also avoid Khaosan Rd....unless one just follows the normal and predictable 'backpacker trail'.
