One hallmark of modernist architecture is the use of a site to add prominence to the architect's intentions. In this particular case, the marriage works well with the hotel commanding views of coastline and the rolling hills of Sihanouk Ville in every direction.
King Norodom Sihanouk's designed the interiors as well as Promenade des Anglais - a garden and walkway at the base of the rocky outcrop that skirts Independence Beach.

interesting. Our route from Senegal through much of Mali - sometimes on
fairly good roads and sometimes on unmarked sand tracks. When our vehicle
seemed to be stuck on top of a sand dune at midnight near the Maritanian
border in western Mali we kept telling ourselves that it would make a good
story if we survived. Often the worst travel experiences are the most fun
to talk about in retrospect. less
